Aqara Presence Sensor FP2
Aqara · PS-S02D / PS-S02E
The Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 is an advanced presence sensor based on 60–64 GHz millimeter-wave radar. Unlike traditional PIR sensors, it can detect very small body movements and keep presence active even when a person remains nearly motionless. One of its standout features is zone-based positioning. A single FP2 can cover a room up to 40 m² and divide it into up to 30 configurable zones such as sofa, bed, desk or hallway. Each zone can be used independently to create different automations, reducing the need to install multiple motion sensors in the same room. The FP2 can detect up to 5 people simultaneously and uses AI-powered filtering algorithms to reduce false triggers caused by robot vacuums or pets. Aqara also highlights that the sensor works without cameras or wearable devices, improving privacy compared with other tracking systems. It also integrates an ambient light sensor that can be used in automations. In Aqara Home, Apple Home and IFTTT you can combine presence with light level to create more precise rules, for example turning lights on only when a zone is occupied and the room is dark. When ceiling-mounted, the FP2 can use its fall detection function. In this mode it can detect a fall and trigger an alert through the app, a feature especially useful for older adults or rooms where extra supervision is desired. It also offers sleep monitoring without the need for wearables. Aqara states it can record information related to heart rate and respiratory rate and generate historical sleep reports. These functions depend on installation mode and configuration in Aqara Home. The sensor uses IEEE 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz WiFi for its main connection and also includes Bluetooth 4.2. It does not use Zigbee and does not require an Aqara hub to operate. Aqara explicitly notes it can be added directly to Home Assistant via the HomeKit Controller integration, allowing presence and zones to be used in local automations. It is also officially compatible with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT. Local automations can continue to work even without Internet connectivity when using Aqara devices or devices compatible with Apple Home. The FP2 requires permanent power via USB-C at 5V/1A; it does not run on batteries. It has IPX5 protection, so it can be installed in humid environments such as bathrooms and even in some sheltered outdoor locations protected from direct rain. It can be mounted on a wall, ceiling or corner using a suitable bracket.

Aqara FP2 and Home Assistant: Complete Guide to the mmWave Presence Sensor and Advanced Automations
Have you ever been left in the dark in the living room or office simply because you were sitting still reading or working? Traditional motion detectors with passive infrared technology (PIR) have done their job for years, but they have an obvious problem: they detect visible movement, not static presence. The Aqara FP2 presence sensor solves this thanks to millimeter-wave radar technology (mmWave). In this guide, we take an in-depth look at how it works, its key features, how to integrate it with Home Assistant, and how to create real advanced automations for a smart bedroom.
