Does an Air Purifier Really Work with Pets? In-Depth Review of the Lefant A1 Pro and Its Home Assistant Integration

Having pets at home brings great companionship, but also everyday challenges: accumulated hair, dust, dander and airborne microparticles that can worsen indoor air quality. In this review, we put the Lefant A1 Pro to the test, an air purifier with an H13 HEPA filter designed for homes with animals, measuring its real effectiveness and seeing how to integrate it 100% locally into Home Assistant.

1. Main Features of the Lefant A1 Pro

The Lefant A1 Pro stands out for its specifications focused on efficient air cleaning:

  • High-Efficiency Filtration: H13 HEPA filter, capable of capturing 99.97% of airborne particles down to 0.3 microns, including pollen, dust, pet dander and dust mites.
  • Built-in PM2.5 Sensor: Constantly monitors air quality and automatically adjusts the power.
  • Rotating 360° Air Intake: Optimizes air circulation and airflow throughout the room.
  • 6 Speed Levels and Sleep Mode: Ultra-quiet night operation so it does not disturb your rest.
  • Smart Control: Compatible with the official app to check filter life and pollution levels.

2. Real Pet Test: Does It Capture Hair and Reduce PM2.5?

To check whether it really works in a real home with a pet, in this case a rabbit, we carried out two key tests:

What happens with pet hair?

When checking the pre-filter after several days of continuous use, we saw that the purifier effectively traps fine floating hair and light particles suspended in the air. However, it does not replace a robot vacuum or handheld vacuum for hair that falls directly onto the floor or sofas: both devices complement each other.

Real-time reaction to pollution spikes

During a household cleaning session, an independent PM2.5 sensor placed on the other side of the living room detected a spike close to 100 µg/m³. The Lefant A1 Pro, in automatic mode, detected the increase instantly, raising the filtration speed until air quality returned to optimal levels within a few minutes.

3. Noise Level and User Experience

One of the key factors when choosing an air purifier is the noise level:

  • Sleep Mode / Low Speeds: Practically inaudible, ideal for bedrooms or living rooms while watching TV.
  • Maximum Speed: Produces powerful airflow and a more noticeable noise level, designed for fast purification after ventilating or cooking.

4. Home Assistant Integration via LocalTuya (No Cloud)

For home automation and privacy enthusiasts, the Lefant A1 Pro can be integrated into Home Assistant using the LocalTuya component, allowing local control without depending on external servers.

Available entities and controls in Home Assistant:

  • Power on and off.
  • Mode change (Automatic, Manual, Sleep) and speed selector.
  • PM2.5 sensor reading and air quality.
  • 360° rotation and LED light control.
  • Remaining filter life monitoring.
