Where Is Your Family? Create a "Magic Clock" on Your Wall Panel with Wizard Clock Card in Home Assistant
If you're a Harry Potter fan, you'll remember the Weasley clock that showed the location of each family member. Thanks to Home Assistant and Wizard Clock Card, you can have exactly the same thing on your Dashboard. In this article, I'll show you how to set up this visual location tracker, ideal for wall tablets or centralized control panels.

What Is Wizard Clock Card?
It's a custom card available in HACS that turns tracking entities (device_tracker) into a visual clock. Instead of hours, the hands point to custom states and zones such as:
- Home
- Work / School
- Gym
- On the way (Moving)
- Lost (Lost) - For when there is no signal or the state is unknown.
Step-by-Step Installation
1. Download from HACS
To get this card, the first step is to look for it in the community store:
- Go to HACS > Interface.
- Search for
Wizard Clock Cardand install it. - Restart or reload the Lovelace resources.
2. Entity and Zone Setup
Once you've added the card to your panel, you'll need to define which devices you want to track. You can use the official Home Assistant app on your family's phones to get their location.
Setup tip: It's essential that the zones you define in the card match exactly the names of the zones you have set up in Home Assistant (Settings > Areas & Zones).
3. The Final Touch: Custom Font
To make the clock look truly magical, you need to install the right font. In the video, I explain how to download the font file, upload it to your www folder in Home Assistant, and declare it in the resources so the text looks stunning.
Common Troubleshooting: The "Lost" State
Sometimes, if a family member is driving at high speed or goes through a tunnel, the sensor may throw an error or get stuck on "unknown." Wizard Clock Card lets you map these states to the "Lost" position, adding a layer of realism and usefulness to the panel.
The Perfect Companion for Your Wall Panel
This card really shines when used on a Wall Panel (a tablet built into the wall). It's not just decorative; it also lets you see at a glance whether everyone has arrived safely without reaching for your phone.

Conclusion
The Wizard Clock Card is the perfect example of how home automation can be both useful and fun. It's one of those integrations that always catches visitors' attention and truly adds value to the family's everyday life.
